Some Important Too Deep Housecleaning

Too Deep Zone will be changing platforms very soon. Here's what you need to know.

The Too Deep Zone will be moving from Substack to Ghost sometime in the next few weeks.

As you might surmise, there are sociopolitical reasons for the move. It’s hard to enthusiastically climb a subscriber list when Andrew Tate is at the top of it. Substack’s platforming policies have repelled some former subscribers while discouraging many new ones. They also do not jibe with my personal standards and values. The Too Deep Zone needs to be located in a neighborhood where customers feel welcome and safe. So we’re relocating.

What does this mean for you as a reader and subscriber? Almost nothing! Stripe handles the Ghost credit card transactions, just as it did for Substack. Your subscription should port right over. Your business relationship remains with me, not the platforms themselves, just as your relationship with the person who sells you asparagus at the farmer’s market is not dependent on the folks who rent them the stall or manage their credit card app.

Some subscribers will actually save a little money after the move, because Substack has sneaky surcharges. Being a good neighbor is also good business.

Emails from Too Deep Zone sometimes end up in spam folders after the move; some email providers will not recognize the new source. So be on the lookout for that: if you go a few days without seeing a new email from me, check your spam!

There can also be occasional hiccups with subscriptions after the move, so please reach out to me immediately if you hit a paywall that you should not hit. Both the folks at Ghost and colleagues who made the migration tell me such issues are rare and easy to resolve.

Matt Lombardo moved Between the Hashmarks to Beehiv a few days ago – he’s a little more nimble on the tech front than I am – and he has been thrilled with the results so far. (We chose different platforms because we have slightly different needs.)
